Texas State Championships
Bailey competed in the Texas State Championships on Saturday, April 4th in The Woodlands, TX. There were 53 girls in her rotation. Bailey started out on Beam and scored a 9.35 with only a small wobble. After looking at the video, the score may have been "a little" low, but gymnastics is a subjective sport...what are you "gonna do"? She followed with a solid 9.6 on Floor and stood up both pike Vaults earning another 9.35. Bars were Baliey's last event and she "saved" the routine twice, and ultimately scored another 9.6. She was very symetrical in her scoring...9.35, 9.6, 9.35 and 9.6. Her all around score was 37.9. Her placements were as follows: Beam (18th), Vault (10th), Bars (9th), Floor (8th) and All Around (6th). Bailey's performance at States was good enough to qualify her for regionals, where she will compete in Norman, OK the weekend of April 25th and 26th.

Rose City Classic Meet Results
Bailey competed in the Rose City Classic Meet in Tyler, TX (UT Tyler Arena) on Sunday, March 15th.
She started on the Floor with a solid 9.45 resulting in a 3rd place finish on the apparatus. They moved to the Vault where Bailey scored a 9.375, once again placing her 3rd. On her next event, Bailey scored a season high apparatus score on Bars, where she delivered a wonderful 9.7 placing her 1st. Her last event was Beam. Midway through her routine she slipped up on a relatively simple skill (split leap) and took a hard fall. After gathering herself, she finished the routine and scored a 9.35. A fall results in a mandatory .5 deduction, so the 9.35 shows that the rest of the rountine was very strong. Bailey's All Around score was 37.875 placing her 2nd in her age group.

Houston Meet Results
Bailey injured herself a couple of weeks ago while "climbing the rope" during conditioning. She lost her grip and slid down aboout 20 feet resulting in 3rd degree burns to a couple of her fingers. Due to the injury, her practice time was limted, especially on Bars where a lot of pressure is put on your hands. So she went into this meet having not even practiced Bars for over a week, so she wasn't sure what to expect.
The meet was full of great talent, and was probably the deepest field of the season. Bailey started on Beam with a 9.3, ultimately good for 5th place on the apparatus. She followed with a 9.625 on the Floor Exercise which was good enough for 4th place. The Vault judges seemed a bit harsh but it's a subjective sport and Bailey scored a season low 8.925. She stood up both passes and in the end she did not place on the apparatus. Luckily her last rotation was Bars, as the warm up and routine broke open her fingers again. She fought through and even without any practice for over a week scored a 9.2, good enough for 8th place. Bailey's All Around score was 37.1 placing her 6th.
Bailey's next meet is the Rose City Classic in Tyler, TX on March 14th.

Texas State Qualifier Results
After being sick for a week and missing the Metroplex Challenge, Bailey was not at full strength, but well enough to squeak out an All Around win at the Texas State Qualifying meet at Texas Womens University in Denton, TX.
Bailey started on Bars, an event where strength is all important. As a matter of fact, she only worked Bars for a day or two before the competition, and early in the routine, she actually fell. She completed the routine and scored a season low 8.8.
To her credit, she fought through and on her next event (Beam) delivered a fantastic 9.6. On the floor she was once again solid, scoring 9.55. With Vault as her last event, her coaches modified the vault from a pike to a tuck trying to make it a bit easier...again due to lack of practice. Unfortunately that also lowered the start value below 10, and although Bailey did a good vault it only scored 9.2.
Bailey's overall score of 37.15 was good enough to win the All Around, and she finished 1st on Beam and Floor and 4th on Vault. She did not place on Bars. That makes 3 meets and 3 All Around titles for Bailey in 2009...a great start for sure.
